Continental 0100154 Grand Prix 24-700 x 24 Fold Black Tire is the new racing classic. The name Continental Grand Prix has become a brand in its own right in cycling circles. The Grand Prix is THE classic tire and a sign to quality and performance, a claim which appears again in the new Grand Prix. Like its predecessor, the new generation is eager to set own standards. The new Grand Prix leads the trend towards wide tires in cycling. Wider tires roll easier, have a higher mileage and offer more comfort and grip. The main size of the Grand Prix is 24 mm, which is wide enough to show off the advantages of wider tires, but still light and slim enough to be built into any racing machine. The PolyX Breaker technology uses polyester fibers that overlap to create a dense fabric with minimal space between each thread. This PolyX material is failsafe and highly resistant to any sharp thorns or large shards, without reducing the rolling resistance. I never would have picked them out of the array that Continental offers (because they just seem to have too many to figure out) but these showed up on a new custom bike. The 24mm width is that nice in between size of 23s which can feel too narrow on challenging descents and 25s which can feel like you are riding though mud on the flats. These tires are great for the chip and seal roads of Texas and the sketchy rock and gravel strewn roads of the mountains in southern Arizona, both of which I have used them on. |
